The New Hampshire Senate race could go either way, with Democratic incumbent Jeanne Shaheen locked in a dead heat with Republican challenger Scott Brown. A pair of polls show both candidates with their own one-point lead, and the Real Clear Politics average of polls has Shaheen with less than a point advantage.
The first poll from New England College gives Brown the lead, 49 percent to 48 percent. That poll has consistently shown Brown ahead by one point since early October. Read the full polling memo here.
The second, from WMUR and the University of New Hampshire, reverses the numbers, with Shaheen ahead, 49 percent to 48 percent. This poll has been moving steadily in Brown’s direction since the beginning of October, when he was down six points. See that memo with the WMUR/UNH polling trend here.
Brown and the state Republican party have been emphasizing both national security and immigration issues, with the party running Facebook ads this past weekend tying Shaheen to Barack Obama’s immigration “amnesty plan.” Shaheen, meanwhile, has sought to downplay national security issues that are cutting against her party politically.
