Trump to match $2 million raised by his campaign in 12 hours

In an email to supporters on Wednesday, Donald Trump Jr. claimed his father’s presidential campaign raised $2 million in 12 hours.

Trump sent his first fundraising email on Tuesday, just 24 hours after an electoral filing showed him entering the month of June with a mere $1.2 million cash on hand. Republicans reacted by questioning the fundraising ability of their party’s presumptive presidential nominee and raising concerns about his viability as a general election candidate.

“I’m going to help make [this] the most successful introductory fundraising email in modern political history by personally matching every dollar that comes in within the next 48 hours, up to $2 million!” he wrote in the email.

On Wednesday, Trump’s son continued to urge supporters to contribute to his campaign in order to reduce the current fundraising gap between him and Clinton, who raised $28 million in May and ended the month with a war chest of $42 million.

“We all know what a disaster Crooked Hillary would be for this country if she were elected,” Don Jr. wrote in the email. “And the only way to stop her is to stand together and fight against her fraud and lies.”

Trump’s fundraising push comes as his campaign seeks to turn a new page before next month’s GOP convention. The billionaire dismissed his campaign manager Corey Lewandowski on Monday, and has since announced the appointment of four new staffers who will run his digital operation and lead his field volunteers and surrogates.

Trump also delivered a major speech in New York City on Wednesday focused solely on undermining the credibility of Clinton.
