Biden wants in: ‘I think I could do a good job’ as president

Count Vice President Joe Biden in for the 2016 race for the Democratic presidential nomination.

In admittedly blunt comments to NBC’s “Today” show, he said he wants to be president and would be a good chief executive.

Matt Lauer asked Biden if he would like to give the State of the Union in the future and Biden said, “Well, yeah, by the way Matt to be blunt with you, I think I could do a good job.”

In his most expressive comments about running against Hillary Clinton for president, he added that he is planning to make a decision by summer.

“I have plenty of time to make that decision between now and the summer and I will make that decision in that time frame,” he told Lauer.

Biden, who often shows up at the bottom of presidential preference polls, has been coy so far on his plans and his grab for the job during the “Today” interview is sure to make headlines and possibly shake up the race among those trying to take on Clinton, the frontrunner by a mile.

Often gaffe-prone, Biden spoke in measured tones and twice shrugged off a chance to slap Republicans, even when they cheered Obama’s comment that he had run his last campaign.
