Melania Trump’s favorability has doubled, poll finds

A CNN/ORC poll released Wednesday found Melania Trump’s favorability rating has more than doubled since February 2016.

The poll, taken March 1-4, found that 52 percent of respondents have a favorable opinion of the first lady. In February 2016, only 24 percent of respondents said the same, marking a 28-point increase in her favorability over less than 13 months.

In contrast, her unfavorability has remained relatively stable, with 32 percent of those polled having an unfavorable opinion of her in February 2016 and 31 percent agreeing today.

The first lady’s favorability has increased 16 points since January alone, according to the poll.

In mid-February, high-profile actress and model Emily Ratajkowski made headlines for defending the first lady after a New York Times journalist called her a “hooker” at a fashion week event. Melania Trump later applauded Ratajkowski for her support.

One year ago, 23 percent of respondents had never heard of Melania Trump, with only three percent saying the same now.

The White House confirmed last month that the first lady will move to Washington at the conclusion of her son Barron’s school year in New York.

The poll sampled 1,025 American adults with a three percent margin of error.
