New England senators honor former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady with resolution

Eight New England senators wrote a resolution to “[honor] the legendary career” of Tom Brady as he retires from the NFL.

Sens. Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire, Susan Collins of Maine, Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island, Jack Reed of Rhode Island, Angus King of Maine, Patrick Leahy of Vermont, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Ed Markey of Massachusetts, and Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire drafted the resolution Thursday as a coalition.

Notably, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders was absent from the team of New Englanders.

Brady is referred to as “TB12” and “the GOAT” that “brought incredible joy to New England and all of Patriots Nation” in the resolution. The senators wrote that Brady’s “leadership, tenacity, and hard work defined a generation for Patriots Nation and whose legacy will continue to live on for years to come.” They continued on to wish him well in his future endeavors.

The resolution comes after New England Patriots fans slammed Brady for his acknowledgment of his former team, which left much to be desired. Reporter Chris Cioffi tweeted that the former quarterback “only kinda thanked the Patriots when he retired.”

After the snub, Ohio congressional candidate Nina Turner shared Sanders’s quote turned meme on Twitter. “Look, I don’t tolerate bulls*** terribly well,” it read.

WAMC Berkshire Bureau Chief Josh Landes tweeted his satisfaction with the Vermont senator. “The Sanders Snub — brutal, satisfying,” he wrote.

The Washington Examiner reached out to Sanders for a comment on why he did not sponsor the bill but did not receive a response.
