A report in the New York Times Sunday claimed that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s staff is keeping him from using his official Twitter account in an effect to prevent any further controversies during the campaign’s final days.
“Aides to Mr. Trump have finally wrested away the Twitter account that he used to colorfully — and often counterproductively — savage his rivals,” the report said, citing anonymous interviews with “dozens of aides, operatives, supporters and advisers.”
Twitter has been one of Trump’s favorite means of communication throughout the campaign, giving the candidate direct and instanteous access to his fans and other curious onlookers.
It has also been a source of some of his most controversial moments, such as his open warfare with others in the GOP leadership last month when many distanced themselves from the candidate following the surfacing of a video in which Trump made lewd comments about women.
More recent tweets from the official Trump account have been standard political fare.
