A teacher in Florida was fired and arrested after he blasted loud music and streamed it on Instagram while students were taking state tests.
Martin Reese, former art teacher at Creekside Middle School in Port Orange, claimed he didn’t like the Florida Statewide Assessment. In the 50-minute video, his students are heard off-camera saying they didn’t like it either.
“FSA testing is today. There are a lot of students, a lot of kids, stressed out about it. I think that’s unfair,” Reese opens the video. “Especially these students that just came back from being away from school for COVID.”
LOUDON SCHOOLS TOLD TEACHERS TO KEEP GENDER TRANSITIONS SECRET FROM PARENTS
“The whole world changed on them, and now we put all this pressure on them to take a test,” he continued. “Some of them don’t eat breakfast in the morning.”
Creekside’s art teacher referred to the school as an “elementary school,” although it is actually a middle school. Creekside hired Reese on March 23, but he’s worked for the district since 2009.
Reese went on to say that he planned to play music loudly, and even when other teachers came to intervene, he refused to turn it down. At another point in his rant, Reese admitted he spent the previous night “smoking a lot of weed.”
Eventually, the police were called, and Reese was escorted out of his classroom. He started another stream to record the interview with police before ultimately getting arrested.
“This caused the school to go into lockdown until the situation was resolved,” police wrote in a statement. “At no time were any students endangered and no weapons were involved in the incident.”
