McCarthy gives Boehner a B-

According to Kevin McCarthy, John Boehner did just an above average job as House speaker.

The House majority leader, who is widely expected to replace Boehner when he retires next month, said Monday night that Boehner deserves a “B-” grade for his tenure leading House Republicans.

“I think John Boehner deserves a B-,” McCarthy told Sean Hannity on Fox News Tuesday night, prompting Hannity to respond, “Oh, come on.”

“Now look, you may disagree with me. He won a majority, we’ve got the highest margin we ever had before, we lowered the deficit … but you know what? There is a lot more,” McCarthy replied. “We passed 300 bills this year. But you look to the Senate, they haven’t moved.”

The California Republican also vowed to push forward new ideas and strategies to end fights over a variety of issues, including defunding Planned Parenthood and Obamacare, though he didn’t put forth any specifics promises on how.

When Hannity said Boehner avoided his calls during his time as House speaker, McCarthy vowed to be different.

“I’ll make this pledge to you, good, bad or indifferent,” McCarthy replied. “I’ll come on every single month if you want, or more.”
