Suspect sought in unusual Sunday bank robbery

Fairfax County police are looking for the man who robbed a bank in the Falls Church area last month in a rare Sunday heist. The robbery happened at about 3:20 p.m. on Sept. 18, when the man held up the TD Bank at 6198 Arlington Blvd., police said.

Police said the suspect passed a note to the teller demanding money. The teller handed over cash, and the suspect fled from the bank. Police didn’t disclose the amount of cash the man obtained.

No one was injured during the robbery. The suspect did not display a weapon, said Officer Bud Walker, a Fairfax County police spokesman.

Walker said police are still trying to identify the man. As of Monday, he remained at large and police had not announced any suspects in the case.

Police described the robbery as unusual because it happened on a Sunday, when most banks are closed. Last year, just 51 out of 5,268 bank heists reported across the country happened on Sundays, according to FBI statistics.

The suspect is described as white, 55 to 60 years old and about 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall. Police said he has a thin build and was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt at the time of the heist.
