Federal government orders submission of supplemental briefs by May 31

A three-judge panel has directed Virginia, Liberty University and the federal government to submit supplemental briefs by May 31 before it rules on the cases challenging President Obama’s health care overhaul as unconstitutional. In the case filed by Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, the federal government is appealing a judge’s ruling that struck down the key provision in the law mandating that Americans purchase health insurance or face a penalty, while Liberty University is appealing a separate ruling that declared the law constitutional.
