Rand Paul on his injuries: ‘The bones will never be straight’

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., told MSNBC Thursday that while he’s healing after being attacked by his neighbor in November, he still has pain and discomfort, and will never be the same again.

“I still struggle,” he said. “I can’t even describe to you how painful it was the first five weeks.”

“I had six fractures, three of them displaced. The bones will never be straight, they’ll sort of heal in a crooked fashion now. Every time I move you feel the bones grinding on the bone, and so, I’m feeling better but I still struggle with it.”

Paul suffered six broken ribs and a buildup of fluid in his chest after his neighbor attacked him while he was cutting the grass.

The neighbor, Rene Boucher, was charged with felony assault last week and faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Paul said he’s since had pneumonia twice.

“I do feel better, but it’s a relative term,” he said.
