Officer hurt in D.C. shootout A police officer exchanged fire with a suspect in Northwest D.C. on Tuesday afternoon. No one was hit by gunfire, but the officer suffered facial cuts from broken glass, said Officer Hugh Carew, a Metropolitan Police Department spokesman.

Police received a report of a man with a gun on the 4800 block of New Hampshire Avenue NW shortly before 4 p.m.

Carew said the suspect fired at an officer and the officer fired back.

The suspect is in custody, Carew said. The names of the suspect and officer were not available.

The officer was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Carew said he didn’t know where the broken glass came from.

4 charged in vandalism of county building

Four male juveniles are suspected of repeatedly vandalizing the Montgomery County Government Regional Services Center in Bethesda.

The building has been targeted by vandals about seven times since mid-October, Montgomery County police spokeswoman Lucille Baur said. The most recent incident occurred Friday, when officers saw four male teenagers write graffiti on the walls and windows with markers.

One 14-year-old was apprehended Friday. The other three, all age 15, were identified. Each of the four teenagers has been charged with malicious destruction of property.
