Hermes and Cartier suspend business in Russia temporarily

Richemont became the first luxury brand to suspend business in Russia, temporarily closing its Hermes and Cartier stores Friday.

The company announced the closures of three Hermes stores and five Cartier stores in a post on LinkedIn.

“Richemont’s deepest compassion and thoughts go out to our colleagues, their families and friends affected by the tragic situation in Ukraine,” the post read. “With the care and wellbeing of our colleagues top of mind, we are in close contact with our people on the ground and ensuring they receive all the financial, logistic and moral support they need.”

The company added that its store in Ukraine has been closed since Feb. 24. There is only one Cartier shop in Kyiv.

“Richemont has initiated a significant donation to Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF). This donation will help provide emergency response activities, basic aid items, and medical supplies and support to people in need in the region,” the post continued. “Several of our Maisons and businesses are also supporting humanitarian efforts with additional donations and contributions.”
