Four dead after ‘ambush-style’ shooting at California house party

Los Angeles County officials are searching for suspects responsible for an “ambush-style” shooting that left four dead and one injured at a house party early Sunday.

Authorities responded to the shooting at 1:38 a.m. on Sunday at an unregulated short-term rental home in Inglewood, where a group had gathered for a birthday party on Saturday night, according to a press release. The shooting involved multiple weapons, including a rifle and a handgun.

“This is the largest number of shooting victims that have been injured in this city since the 1990s,” Mayor James Butts Jr. told reporters Sunday.

The group had gathered to celebrate Breahna Stines’s 21st birthday. Stines, along with her 25-year-old sister Marneysha Hamilton, was among those killed in the shooting. The other two victims have not been identified, with police only describing them as male friends of the sisters.

“These are sociopathic killers that have to be sequestered from society,” Butts said. “Turn yourselves in. We will find you, and we will prosecute you.”

Family members and friends gathered near the scene of the shooting to create a memorial for the victims, with a display of birthday balloons, candles, and photos of the two sisters.

Police have not determined a motive for the shooting, although police believe it may be gang-related, as the surviving victim told officials he is affiliated with a gang from another city, according to a press release. Officials indicated he has an extensive criminal history.

Butts later said the attack “was not random, and it was related to the people who were expected to be at the party,” according to the Los Angeles Times.

Inglewood police said they believe multiple suspects are involved and are asking the public to submit a tip with any information.
