Two men in a car containing more than $18,000 worth of cocaine died Tuesday morning after leading police on a high-speed chase in Harford County, state police said.

Charles Quinones, 37, of the 5200 block of Cromarty Road in Baltimore County, was driving a 2005 Mercury Sable with obstructed license plates about 7 mph over the 65 mph speed limit on Interstate 95 at about 5 a.m. Tuesday, police said in a statement.

When a trooper attempted to pull the car over, it slowed and moved to the shoulder before darting back into traffic, according to police. The trooper gave chase, traveling about 90 mph, but could not catch the Sable, which was weaving through traffic, police said.

The car moved onto the exit for Route 155 near Havre de Grace, traveling on the shoulder of the road to pass other vehicles, when the driver lost control and crashed the car into nearby trees, police said.

Police found 6.5 ounces of powder cocaine in the trunk, police said.

Medics arrived and pronounced dead Quinones and the 74-year-old passenger, Willie Robinson, of the 1000 block of Jeanette Way in Bel Air. The Sable belonged to Robinson, police said.

Police said they will continue their investigation and conduct a crash reconstruction.
