TAMPA, Fla. – Rep. Ron Paul is apparently one heck of a swimmer. Barry Goldwater, Jr., told a story about Paul’s abilities at Sunday’s Ron Paul Republican rally held at the Sun Dome at Tampa’s University of South Florida.
“We had a wonderful barbecue and there was a swimming pool,” Goldwater said. “And Ron Paul and I had a race, I’m not going to tell you who won.” According to a biography written by Paul’s wife Carol, the congressman took up swimming in high school while recovering from a track injury, later joining the swim team.
In Tampa, Goldwater got the crowd riled up by noting the parallels between the Goldwaters and Ron and Rand Paul. He noted how he had served in Congress alongside his father.
“One of the few times that a father and son served together,” Goldwater said, pausing. “Until recently,” he said, setting off massive cheers from the nearly full stadium.
