Colorado senator Cory Gardner defended his state’s delegate selection for the GOP convention Monday night, and dismissed Donald Trump’s “temper tantrum” about the process.
Gardner, a former supporter of Marco Rubio’s presidential bid, presented a series of familiar critiques of Trump’s attitude: If he can’t handle politics, how will he handle the most significant issues confronting the U.S. government?
“If you can’t figure out the Colorado GOP delegate process how can you figure out how to balance the national budget?” he tweeted. Gardner also listed multiple matters of foreign policy and national security.
Ted Cruz swept Colorado’s 34 delegates this weekend in a vote that Trump called “rigged” and “crooked”. But multiple figures in Republican politics and the conservative movement, from Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Preibus to Rush Limbaugh, said the state party’s rules were set and transparent long before it chose its delegates to the national convention in Cleveland. Gardner, a freshman senator, added to those statements.
.@tedcruz showed up to the @cologop convention. @realDonaldTrump only sent a surrogate. Cruz swept. Elections are won by those who show up.

It’s widely seen that Trump’s campaign has been tripped up by the particulars of the GOP nominating contest, which has helped Cruz stay within shouting distance of the front-runner.
