London’s first Muslim mayor zinged Donald Trump again on Tuesday by saying he wants “the other woman,” Hillary Clinton, to defeat him in the race for the White House.
“I’m hoping Hillary trounces him,” Mayor Sadiq Khan said on ITV’s “Good Morning Britain” Tuesday. “Obviously, I’m wishing the other woman wins.”
Khan played the comment off as a joke, and despite that zinger, he did offer Trump an olive branch of sorts. Khan invited the presumed Republican presidential nominee to travel to his city to meet his family and everyday Londoners.
“I invite Donald Trump to come to London, meet my wife and my daughters, meet my friends and my neighbors, meet Londoners … who are British, they’re Londoners, they’re Muslim,” Khan said on ITV’s “Good Morning Britain” Tuesday.
The two politicians have been in a war of words since Khan was elected as London’s first Muslim mayor earlier this month.
Early in his presidential campaign, Trump called for a temporary ban on Muslims entering the United States, which Khan called out after his election win.
“I want Donald Trump to come to the greatest city in the world to understand that actually, we’ve shown the rest of the world — and forgive the pun — that hope trumps fear; unity trumps division and I’ll be a mayor for all Londoners,” Khan said Tuesday.
This week, Trump called Khan “nasty” and ignorant” for his comments against his proposed Muslim ban.
