For Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, this has been a week of strange bedfellows.
First came word that the mayor would host a fund-raiser for Senator Scott P. Brown, a Massachusetts Republican with whom, Mr. Bloomberg said, he does not agree “on an awful lot of things.”

Then, on Friday, the mayor said he would not support a ban against the beleaguered fast-food chain Chick-fil-A, whose owner has drawn controversy by vocally opposing same-sex marriage.
Mr. Bloomberg’s predilection for fried chicken has been well documented — he serves it at fund-raisers and dinner parties — but he is also very much in favor of same-sex marriage. This week, the city filed a brief urging the United States Supreme Court to overturn the federal Defense of Marriage Act.
