Wizards cut Grier, trim roster

Arenas, Miller return after bout with the flu

Roster down to 15 » Ahead of their final tune-up before the regular season begins Tuesday at Dallas, the Wizards trimmed their roster to 15 players on Thursday, cutting training camp invitee Vincent Grier, who had one assist in less than seven minutes of action in seven preseason games. The team’s other camp invitee, Paul Davis, remains with the team. Washington must submit its final roster to the NBA by Monday.

“Today was probably one of the more competitive practices that we’ve had,” said head coach Flip Saunders. “We’ll if we carry that into [the final preseason game] and next week.”

Arenas, Miller return from illness » Gilbert Arenas and Mike Miller are both expected back in the lineup against Chicago after missing the two previous games with Swine Flu, which was likely contracted when the team visited Cleveland last week, where a number of the Cavaliers, including LeBron James, have been sick.

“That’s our Swine Flu backcourt,” joked Saunders.
