Clinton takes heat for Wall Street, 9/11 comments

After Bernie Sanders attacked Hillary Clinton for her stance on Wall Street, the Democratic front-runner invoked the attacks in New York on Sept. 11.

“I represented New York and I represented New York on 9/11 when we were attacked. Where were we attacked? In downtown Manhattan, where Wall Street is,” Clinton said. “I did spend a whole lot of time and effort helping them rebuild, that was good for New York, that was good for the economy and it was a way to rebuke the terrorists that had attacked our country.”

Clinton then said reinstating the financial regulations of Glass-Steagall was “nowhere near enough.”

The Republican National Committee was quick to pounce on Clinton’s 9/11 comments. RNC Chairman Reince Preibus tweeted that Clinton “reached a new low tonight by using 9/11 to defend [her] campaign donations.”

Martin O’Malley campaign spokeswomen Lis Smith, also criticized Clinton’s comparison on Twitter.

“My dad worked in WTC from the day it was built to the day it went down,” Smith wrote. “Hillary Clinton, never invoke 9/11 to justify your Wall St positions.”
