Late night host Jimmy Kimmel slammed President Trump and the GOP for doing nothing in response to Friday’s shooting in Santa Fe, Texas, because their pockets are “full of gun money.”
Kimmel tore into Trump at the start of his show for not taking action to pass gun control legislation and sending thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families. Ten people were killed, and 10 were wounded in the shooting at a high school.
“President Trump said he is with the people of Santa Fe in this tragic hour and will be with them forever except for when “it comes time to do something then he will not be with them,” Kimmel said Friday.
“They know this has gone too far, but they’re too cowardly to do the right thing,” he continued. “They care more about the support of the NRA than they do about children. So they sit there with their hands in their pockets, pockets that are full of gun money and they do nothing. They just wait for the outrage to pass because it didn’t happen to their children. There’s only one way to look at this; how would you feel and what would you do if these were your children who were killed today?”
Kimmel urged his audience to register to vote and oust politicians who don’t back gun control measures.
“Our leaders right now seem to think everything is fine, it isn’t fine,” Kimmel said.
