What, Newsweek doesn’t think Obama is president?

In addition to the obvious misplacement of that asterisk, there’s also the issue of whether “Wall Street-loving” applies to Obama. In his cover story, Jonathan Alter disputes this by simply noting that “his financial-reform package, while watered down, was the most vigorous since the New Deal.”

But that doesn’t mean he hasn’t coddled Wall Street — or, more specifically, that he hasn’t coddled specific institutions on Wall Street whose alumni populate his administration (think Goldman Sachs, which supported that “vigorous” bill), often at the expense of other institutions on Wall Street (think hedge funds and other small players who don’t have enough lobbyists meeting with Obama’s team at Caribou Coffee).
