Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said the Senate will begin the impeachment trial weighing charges against President Trump next week, on Tuesday Jan. 21.
McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, said Chief Justice John Roberts, who will preside over the trial, could arrive in the Senate this week to swear in senators, who will serve as jurors. The Senate may also vote this week on “housekeeping” provisions related to the trial, McConnell said.
The House is expected to vote Wednesday on appointing Democratic lawmakers to serve as impeachment managers. Those lawmakers will walk the impeachment articles over to the Senate.
