House Homeland Security Chairman Michael McCaul won’t rule out running against Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in 2018 and is amping up his criticism of the senator.
McCaul knocked Cruz’s failure to endorse Republican nominee Donald Trump at the GOP convention when asked by populist radio host Laura Ingraham about McCaul’s interest in challenging the Texas senator.
“I think what he [Cruz] did at the convention turned off a lot of people,” McCaul told radio host Laura Ingraham. “I mean, he pledged to support [Trump]. He broke his word.”
McCaul said he gets angry when thinking about Republicans who refuse to support Trump, and called their actions “unconscionable.”
Cruz has already decided to run for re-election in 2018.
