Former national security adviser H.R. McMaster said that he “was never uncomfortable” with the way President Donald Trump handled classified documents when he was in office.
McMaster said there were “systems in place” to prevent issues with the handling of classified information when he worked for the Trump administration while speaking with Margaret Brennan on CBS News’s Face the Nation on Sunday.

“There were systems in place. I don’t know what happened to those systems,” McMaster said. “But I was never uncomfortable with it while I was there. But you know, that was a long time ago now.”

Brennan asked McMaster if the former president ever made him uncomfortable with the way he handled classified information, using the context of a situation in 2017 in which an anonymous official told the Washington Post that Trump told Russian officials classified information, an allegation McMaster said was false at the time.
“While I was there, I did not see any problems in handling of classified information. And what you’re talking about really is a session in which the president did not disclose classified information, but somebody leaked it. And then it was published in the newspaper,” McMaster said.
Brennan’s questions for the former Trump administration official comes as Trump faces scrutiny for his handling of classified documents in the aftermath of the FBI raid on his residence in Mar-a-Lago.
