Super Bowl-winning defensive back Richard Sherman was arrested and jailed on Wednesday for burglary and domestic violence.
Sherman, 33, is also being investigated for a DUI and a hit-and-run after his vehicle collided with a construction zone off-ramp overnight, police in Washington said. He was booked into the Kings County Correctional Facility in Seattle at around 6:08 a.m. and was denied bail, jail records show.
The police department in Redmond, a Seattle suburb, received a call around 2 a.m. from a person saying a family member was trying to force his way into the caller’s residence, according to NBC News.

“Our officers arrived and located an individual who matched the description of the suspect,” Redmond Police Department spokesman James Perry said. “They located him outside the house, contacted him, attempted to detain him, and the suspect fought with the officers.”
Nobody was injured in the incident, and officers deployed a police dog to help detain Sherman, Perry said. The incident is being investigated as “domestic violence” because Sherman and the person whose residence he allegedly tried to enter are related, according to the outlet.
The vehicle, which state police said is registered to the football player, was abandoned in a separate location after the construction zone collision, and Sherman reportedly proceeded to the residence on foot. State police obtained a search warrant to test Sherman’s blood in connection to the incident, a Washington State Patrol spokesperson said.
The NFL Players Association put out a statement on Wednesday acknowledging an arrest, though it did not mention Sherman by name.
“We were made aware of an arrest last night of one of our player leaders for an alleged domestic violence incident,” the union said, adding that it had initiated its domestic violence protocol for those involved.

He was a member of the championship-winning Seahawks squad, which took the Lombardi trophy in Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014, and has played in five Pro Bowls.
The Redmond Police Department and Washington State Patrol did not immediately respond to the Washington Examiner’s requests for comment.
