Clinton laughs off possible Trump vs. Sanders debate

Hillary Clinton laughed at the idea of a debate between Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders, saying that nothing will come of it.

“I don’t think it’s serious. It’s not gonna happen,” Clinton said laughing, while talking to Wolf Blitzer during a CNN telephone interview on Thursday afternoon.

Just minutes before Clinton’s interview, Sanders triumphantly announced to supporters in Ventura, Calif., that Trump “is agreeing to debate” and that he “looks forward to defeating him.”

The idea for a debate between Sanders and the GOP nominee arose after Trump told comedian Jimmy Kimmel on Wednesday night that he’d enjoy debating the Vermont senator before the California primary. At this point in the race, Sanders cannot win through the primary process but hopes to close strong so he can contest the nomination with superdelegates at the Democratic convention.

When asked if she would join Trump and Sanders in the debate, Clinton responded, “This doesn’t sound like a serious discussion, I’m just looking forward to debating Donald Trump in the general election.”
