Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell hailed the passage of his $4 billion transportation funding package by the Virginia House of Delegates Friday – bringing the state another step closer to seeing the biggest one-time jolt of money dedicated for transportation in more than two decades.
The measure passed on a vote of 65-33.
“We took a major step forward today in our efforts to put the largest injection of funding into the commonwealth’s transportation system in a generation,” McDonnell said.
Democrats on Thursday expressed concern with the plan’s reliance on debt, while its proponents cited low interest rates and the opportunity to draw competitive bids as good reasons to issue bonds for roads right now
A similar transportation bill is pending in the Senate.
