The Food Network star and owner of CakeLove is known for his cakes and cupcakes. And Washingtonians are divided on the subject: CakeLove has both fanatics and detractors.
Well, CakeHaters have a new alternative: Georgetown Cupcake. The Potomac Street bakery opened last week and fans have been lining up around the corner, as Georgetown’s svelte socialites brave their own guilt by adding a few extra calories to their diet du jour. Employees tell us they’re selling more than 1,000 cupcakes a day.
They charge $2.75 a pop compared to CakeLove’s $3, but that’s not the only difference: Although CakeLove embraces U Street’s trendy, alternative vibe, Georgetown Cupcake proudly pipes un-U Street Top 40 songs from the likes of Matchbox 20 and Coldplay through its sound system.
