Alec Baldwin may face charges for Rust shooting soon: District attorney

Alec Baldwin may be charged very soon, according to New Mexico District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies.

Baldwin is “one of the possible defendants” related to the 2021 Rust shooting death of Halyna Hutchins, according to a funding request from the First Judicial District Attorney’s office.

The Sante Fe New Mexican reportedly obtained a copy of the emergency funding request from Carmack-Altwies, asking for $635,000 to prosecute people in the case.

Aside from naming Baldwin, the request further states that the case “could require up to 4 separate jury trials.”

The New Mexico state board of finance granted more than $317,000 to the First Judicial District Attorney’s Office, according to the Sante Fe New Mexican.

Furthermore, the office reportedly stated it is “certainly looking at all the homicide statutes and any gun statutes under New Mexico criminal code” regarding what charges it seeks to bring forth.

“The reason for our emergency request is because we expect to receive the final report soon,” Carmack-Altwies reportedly added in the request.

The First Judicial District Attorney’s office declined to offer comment to the Washington Examiner.

Last year, Baldwin allegedly fired a prop gun, which killed 42-year-old cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, while filming Rust.

The actor has maintained his innocence throughout investigations, however.
