Look out George Washington and ‘Honest Abe’ Lincoln, GOP vice presidential nominee Mike Pence says Donald Trump might be the “most bold truth-teller to ever run for President of the United States.”
Pence made the claim while stumping for Trump in Colorado on Thursday.
“The truth of the matter is that we have probably the most bold truth-teller to ever run for president of the United States running against the most dishonest person ever to seek the presidency,” Pence said of Trump and Hillary Clinton. “It makes me upset, but it’s true.”
Pence cited Clinton’s personal emails as secretary of state, which she purposefully hid from public scrutiny, as an example of what he described as her dishonesty.
Democrats have argued that Trump himself has a complicated relationship with the truth. Since he began running for president, Trump has made several dubious claims, such as linking Texas Sen. Ted Cruz’s father to the assassin of President Kennedy.
Colorado could be a proving ground for both major party nominees, but Clinton appears to have a slight edge. The Democratic nominee led Trump by 2 and 9 percentage points in the Centennial State according to polls released by Quinnipiac University and Colorado Mesa University/PBS respectively on Thursday.
Clinton and Trump will meet on the debate stage for the first time on Monday, which could shake up the race in Colorado and other competitive states nationwide.
