LAUREL, Md. (AP) — Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission customers must restrict water use because a storm knocked out power to the commission’s two filtration plants and other facilities.
The commission says that as of noon Saturday, utilities partially restored power to the plants. However, some pumping stations remain without power, making it harder to move water through the distribution system.
The restrictions apply to all WSSC customers in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. Customers should not use water outside. People should take short showers and turn off faucets after washing their hands. The commission says people should limit the number of toilet flushes and postpone washing clothes and dishes.
This will allow the commission to refill the distribution system and make sure there’s water available for firefighters.
