Joe Biden’s campaign sent an email raising money off the mugshots of two Rudy Giuliani associates arrested the day before.
“The tide is turning. These Trump allies who helped Rudy Giuliani try to smear Joe Biden in Ukraine will face a court of law and the Trump Administration is facing an impeachment inquiry,” the Thursday email read alongside photos of the two men, eventually asking for a campaign donation.
Giuliani, President Trump’s personal lawyer, enlisted Florida businessmen Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman to investigate the Ukrainian business actives of Hunter Biden, the former vice president’s son. They were arrested at Dulles Airport on Wednesday evening “as they were about to board an international flight with one way tickets” on charges relating to a plot to funnel foreign money into a pro-Trump fundraising group. Both of the men are U.S. citizens, but Parnas was born in Russia and Fruman in Ukraine.
The Biden email’s subject line, “Look at THIS photograph,” echoed a tweet from Trump that drew attention to Hunter Biden’s board position on Ukrainian gas company Burisma Holdings while his father was vice president. “LOOK AT THIS PHOTOGRAPH!” Trump tweeted along with an altered Nickelback music video from the 2007 hit song Photograph that zoomed in the Bidens golfing with Devon Archer, a Burisma Holdings executive.
“Donald Trump’s global corruption network is massive,” the email from Biden continued. “When Rudy Giuliani’s associates appear before a judge, they will be represented by Donald Trump’s former lawyer. So make no mistake: Trump will stop at nothing and use every political trick up his sleeve to keep his grip on power.”
Biden raised $15 million in the third quarter of 2019, falling behind his primary rivals Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, and South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg.
