President Trump said Thursday he is planning a trip to visit U.S. troops stationed overseas, and said he had a schedule in mind that he didn’t want to reveal.
Trump made the comments after a Thanksgiving teleconference call from Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Fla., with U.S. service members separated from their families over the holiday.
“We’re going to do some interesting things. At the appropriate time, we’ll be doing some very interesting things,” Trump said when asked whether he was looking forward to traveling to Afghanistan or the Middle East to boost morale in person.
He has an idea when his prospective trip is expected to take place, Trump added.
“I do, but I can’t tell you. You’re the last people I can tell,” the president said, referring to reporters in the room.
Trump’s delay in visiting U.S. military personnel was raised after he failed to appear at a ceremony in France honoring soldiers who died during World War I because it was raining. While he did not make it to the Aisne-Marne American cemetery outside of Paris, Trump spoke without an umbrella the following day during a Veterans Day event at Suresnes Cemetery, which is closer to Paris.
