Donald Trump says Fox News’ Megyn Kelly owes her stardom to him.
“I might be the best thing that ever happened to her, because whoever even heard of her before the last debate?” the GOP front-runner’s said during a sit-down interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer.
Kelly is scheduled to moderate her second GOP primary debate on Jan. 28, and Trump is not happy about it. The billionaire businessman is still upset over the way she moderated the first GOP debate back in August 2015.
“I don’t like her,” he told CNN. “She doesn’t treat me fairly. I’m not a big fan of hers … I thought she was very unfair in the last debate. A lot of people said I won that debate. Everybody said I won the last debate.”
“But I’m not a fan of Megyn Kelly,” he added. “I don’t like her. She probably doesn’t like me, and that’s okay. But she better be fair.”
Trump says he’s still not entirely sure he’ll participate in the next Fox-hosted debate, because he doubts Kelly will treat him fairly.
In August, a feud broke out between Trump and Kelly after the first GOP primary debate. Trump said it was “unprofessional” for Kelly to ask him to address disparaging remarks that he has made about women. Things took a turn for the worse after Trump seemed to suggest in a subsequent CNN interview that Kelly was menstruating during the debate.
The two never really patched things up, and since then, Trump has used his Twitter account to attack Kelly and her show.
Fox continues to clobber its competition, easily beating CNN and MSNBC for audience numbers, and came in second place in November for all of cable TV, placing just behind ESPN, TV Newser reported. At the same time, Kelly, who plays a large role in Fox’s continued ratings success, saw her second-highest rated month ever.
Along with leading the network’s already impressive viewership numbers, Kelly has also been the topic of several recent media profiles, including a lengthy New York Times Magazine article and cover stories for Vanity Fair and Variety.
