Former Redskins coach Joe Gibbs said he wasn’t consulted about any of the Redskins’ latest moves, nor does he have much of a desire to get involved in any future decisions regarding his old team.
He also said, as if anyone is surprised by this, that he has no desire to return in any capacity.

“With all I’ve got going on with my family and everything, with all the racing, it’s extremely hard for me,” Gibbs said in the press box before Sunday’s game vs. Dallas. “Dan [Snyder] knows that. When we talk, we talk as friends.”
And when they’ve talked recently, Gibbs said it wasn’t about any of the recent changes, from the resignation of Vinny Cerrato to the hiring of Bruce Allen.
“I’m gone so that’s not my place,” Gibbs said. “Dan and all the other people conferred with to make those decisions, that’s the right way to make it. …I haven’t talked to Dan about major decisions or anything.”
Regarding Cerrato, Gibbs said, “I felt like I had a great working relationship [with him]. When I worked with him, we were real comfortable with each other…. Our very first free agency group. I was proud of our drafts. I also konw things can happen in an organization and it’s hard for someone to stay a real long time. It’s just one of those things that a decision is made to go in a different direction.”
As for Jim Zorn’s future, Gibbs said, “We all know how tough the job is. Anybody in that profession acknowledges it. I’ve always said it’s probably if not the best job in the world, it’s one of the best. What goes along with that is extreme and intense pressure. That’s the reason we like it so much. I’m hoping everything works out for coach Zorn. Hopefully that’s hwat happens to him. He knows how tough it is.”
Gibbs retired, for a second time, after the 2007 season. He said he was not asked by Snyder to return in any sort of role earlier this season, refuting reports. He misses some aspects of coaching.
“You miss the personality part of it,” he said. “The tough part of it is all the fun things that happen, the relationships. It’s always the people you miss the most. It’s like I said I’m probably one of the most fortunate people in the world to have that job twice. Me and the family will always cherish that.”
