Trump: Military action against North Korea not yet ‘inevitable’

President Trump on Thursday declined to say if U.S. military action against North Korea is inevitable if the isolated nation continues to pursue nuclear energy and weapon development.

“Military action would certainly be an option. Is it inevitable? Nothing is inevitable,” Trump said at a joint press conference with his Kuwaiti counterpart.

Trump touted his administration’s effort to boost military spending and resources, claiming the U.S. would be more than prepared if he decided to respond to North Korea’s escalating aggression with military action.

“Our military has never been stronger and each day, new equipment is delivered,” the president told reporters. “Hopefully, we’re not going to have to use it on North Korea. If we do use it, it will be a very sad day for North Korea.”

Trump, who has often criticized his predecessors for broadcasting major foreign policy decisions, refused to provide details on possible military options he has discussed with the Pentagon.
