Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx will endorse Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton for president.
Foxx, who became the head of the Transportation Department in 2013, will make the announcement official at a campaign event Monday in Waterloo, Iowa.
“Hillary Clinton is my candidate for president of the United States,” Foxx said of the former secretary of state in a statement provided to the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier and shared by the Clinton campaign.
“She is best positioned to continue the progress made by President Obama on a range of issues — from strengthening our economy to making the right investments in our infrastructure to common sense gun safety laws to ensuring a fair criminal justice system,” Foxx added.
Foxx, also a former mayor of Charlotte, N.C., will become the fourth member of President Obama’s cabinet to back Clinton, following Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, Labor Secretary Tom Perez and Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro.
Clinton is tapping her overwhelming support from the Democratic establishment in a bid to head off a challenge for the Democratic presidential nomination by Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont.
