Hillary Clinton increased her lead over rival presidential candidate Donald Trump to 6 points in June, a new Fox News national poll found.
The June 26-28 poll of registered voters found 44 percent support the presumptive Democratic nominee, a 2 percent jump since earlier this month. The poll’s 3 percent margin of error puts Clinton undeniably ahead of Trump.
The businessman’s support has dropped 1 percentage point to 38 percent since the June 5-8 poll. Trump is down 7 points since the poll was conducted in early May when he was ahead of the former secretary of state.
Trump has seen an 8 percent decrease in support from conservatives since May. A net 51 percent of Republican registered voters told Fox News they would rather have someone else as the Republican nominee. Only 48 percent said they were content with the current situation, just three weeks shy of the GOP convention in Cleveland, Ohio.
But for all of the bad news the polls presented the Trump campaign, they also found independents were more likely to support him than Clinton. A net 39 percent of independent voters jumped on the Trump train and 31 percent said they preferred Clinton. Snagging moderate voters and Bernie Sanders’ supporters could be key for Trump to win the election in November.
