Today is the third anniversary of the signing of the “Stimulus” bill, yet Republicans have spent the day talking about Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine’s endorsement of Rick Santorum. DeWine initially endorsed Tim Pawlenty then switched his endorsement to Mitt Romney after Pawlenty dropped out. DeWine’s switch from Romney to Santorum today makes his third endorsement in the last six months.
DeWine, who served in the Senate with Rick Santorum and like Santorum, lost his re-election bid in 2006, endorsed Tim Pawlenty early, in August of 2011. After Pawlenty left the race, DeWine waited a few months to see who the nominee would be (likely in fear of another Pawlenty situation). When it became clear in October that Romney was the frontrunner, DeWine hopped on the bandwagon.
In the words of Seth Meyers and Amy Poehler, really, Mike DeWine, really?
Two weeks before the Ohio primary, you switch your endorsement to Rick Santorum? Really?
Our sources tell us he had a good reason, but still, switching an endorsement this late in the game ridiculous. Three endorsements in less than a year? But still, pretty flaky.
The question better is why is this the top story of the day? Why is no one talking about the third anniversary of the “Stimulus” bill?
Why is no one else but college sophomore, Brandon Kiser talking about this? Kiser has the right idea–we should be focusing on the failure of the stimulus bill, not the failure of our party to decide on a nominee. Unemployment is still above 8 percent. Jobs aren’t being created. And yet, the lead story today was the endorsement of a former US Senator from a different former US Senator.
