Twitter CEO denies company censors content based on ideology

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey said that his social media platform doesn’t discriminate against conservatives, which President Trump accused social media of doing earlier on Saturday.

Dorsey told CNN‘s Brian Stetler in a Friday interview set to air Sunday that his company doesn’t censor content based on the political ideology.

“Are we doing something according to political ideology or viewpoints? We are not. Period,” Dorsey said Friday. “We do not look at content with regards to political viewpoint or ideology. We look at behavior.”

Dorsey conceded to Stetler that some conservatives question that statement.

“I think we need to constantly show that we are not adding our own bias, which I fully admit is left, is more left-leaning,” he said in the CNN interview.

Dorsey’s remarks were made Friday, a day before Trump lashed into social media companies Saturday morning.

“Social Media is totally discriminating against Republican/Conservative voices,” he tweeted. “Speaking loudly and clearly for the Trump Administration, we won’t let that happen. They are closing down the opinions of many people on the RIGHT, while at the same time doing nothing to others.”

Trump’s tweet capped off a week in which Twitter suspended far-right conspiracy theorist and InfoWars host Alex Jones for a week for violating its content rules. Facebook and YouTube have also recently pulled Jones’ content.
