Twitter makes work-from-home policy permanent because of coronavirus pandemic

Twitter employees will be able to work from home forever following the coronavirus pandemic.

CEO Jack Dorsey emailed workers on Tuesday to notify them that the company’s work-from-home policy implemented when the outbreak began would be made permanent to allow staff members to decide if they want to return to their physical offices. Those in positions that require a physical presence, such as custodial or maintenance staff, will still have to return to the offices and were not included in the work-from-home announcement.

“We’ve been very thoughtful in how we’ve approached this from the time we were one of the first companies to move to a work-from-home model,” a Twitter spokesperson said in a statement to BuzzFeed News. “We’ll continue to be, and we’ll continue to put the safety of our people and communities first.”

Dorsey also announced that the company will suspend any in-person events throughout the remainder of 2020 and that employees would be getting a $1,000 stipend to buy supplies needed to improve their work-at-home environment.

Twitter’s decision followed an announcement from Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg that his company would allow employees to work from home until the end of the year.
