The Brown Palace Hotel in Denver, which hosted the 1908 Democratic Convention, is willing to flip-flop on the names of its posh suites.
Three suites at the landmark hotel are named after famous Republican presidents (Eisenhower, Reagan and Roosevelt), but in a nod to its Democratic occupants this week, the Ike suite has been temporarily rechristened the Barack Obama Suite. Like in the other presidential suites, paraphernalia and photos of the suite’s namesake will decorate the room.
While we’re on the topic of food and hospitality, a few lucky Dems this week will have the opportunity to taste wine at Morton’s with Georg Riedel, founder of uber-high-end Riedel crystal. Riedel will be flying in from Austria with his stemless “O” series wineglasses for the special event.
In fact, there are actually two Morton’s here in Denver for all those D.C. lobbyists who can’t bear the thought of dining somewhere different than their usual lunchtime haunts. There’s also a Capital Grille here which expects a brisk business, as well as a Palm steakhouse (at least plenty of the guests this week will already know the menu).
And finally, keep your eyes peeled at Venice Ristorante and Winebar. Famous Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli has used the restaurant in the past for a fundraiser for his organization, and a restaurant spokesperson said cryptically that Bocelli “may be coming back soon.”
