Republican governor of Tennessee Bill Haslam talked openly Wednesday about a discussion he had with Donald Trump, but he didn’t endorse the presumptive GOP nominee for president.
The Tennessean reports that Haslam and five other Republican governors met with Trump in New York. Following the meeting, the governor said an endorsement was not discussed.
“To be honest, we never even talked about it. He asked me what I think will happen in Tennessee, and I said: ‘I think you’ll win,'” Haslam said.
Haslam added that each governor had their own priorities while speaking to Trump, but noted that some of them had unease about Trump’s rhetoric. “I think several of us expressed a real concern that what we say and how we say it matters.”
The Tennessee governor supported Marco Rubio during primary season.
He joins other Republican state executives who have held out on Trump in recent weeks, including Maryland governor Larry Hogan, who said Wednesday he doesn’t plan on voting for Trump in November.
