Nicholas Sandmann, the MAGA-hat-wearing Covington Catholic High School student featured in a viral video of a confrontation with a Native American protester, is accusing NBC of defamation.

“Today, @LLinWood and I filed a $275,000,000 lawsuit against NBCUniversal on behalf of Nicholas Sandmann. The facts of the suit show the anti-Trump narrative NBC pushed so hard,” Todd McMurtry, one of Sandmann’s attorneys, said in a tweet Wednesday.

“This action for defamation arises out of television and online reporting by NBCUniversal Media, LLC, which published false and defamatory accusations against Plaintiff Nicholas Sandmann,” the lawsuit alleges.

The lawsuit follows backtracking by media members over condemnations of Sandmann and his fellow Kentucky high school classmates’ confrontation with protester Nathan Phillips near the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Sandmann filed a $250 million defamation lawsuit against the Washington Post in February and a $275 million lawsuit against CNN in March over both media companies’ coverage of the incident.

The Washington Post issued an editors note on its coverage of the event, but has asked for the lawsuit to be dismissed.

NBCUniversal did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
