Microsoft cuts hundreds of jobs amid widespread tech layoffs

Microsoft has laid off hundreds of workers across multiple divisions, the latest in a series of layoffs in the technology industry.

The software company confirmed on Monday that it was laying off several workers to lower costs. While the company declined to say how many workers were to be laid off, the number is expected to be under 1,000, according to Axios. The job cuts will be spread across several levels, teams, and offices worldwide.

“Like all companies, we evaluate our business priorities regularly and make structural adjustments accordingly. We will continue to invest in our business and hire in key growth areas in the year ahead,” Microsoft said in a statement.

The company’s Xbox, Edge, and MSMT teams were affected by the layoffs, according to the Verge.

The layoffs arrived a week after Microsoft announced its newest version of its Surface laptop and its partnership with Meta to bring popular office software such as Teams and Office to the virtual reality market.
