With the election of Joe Biden as president, showboat journalist Jorge Ramos has returned, and it’s good to see that nothing has changed. He still wants taxpayers to devote billions of dollars to taking care of Latin America’s poor.
In an op-ed Friday for the New York Times, Ramos heralded what he expected to be the return of our nation’s “image as a country of immigrants.”
Aren’t you just thrilled to welcome and pay for the healthcare of every poor and sick Guatemalan, Honduran, and Salvadoran who shows up at the Southern border?
“After the pandemic and the horrors of the Trump era, the United States must return to its historic tradition of receiving foreigners,” wrote Ramos. That means, he said, taking in “the caravans and those barely surviving in Mexico’s camps.”
Biden certainly promised to do just that during the presidential primaries, though since his victory, he has backed away slightly from the idea. Still, it’s only a matter of time before he moves back to his previous position of open borders. That’s where Democratic Party loyalists stand now, and they don’t even try to deny it, other than to insist, occasionally, that what you will have just heard them say is, in fact, not what you just heard them say.
Every indication, by the way, is that the already-busted situation at the southern border is going to get worse. President Trump’s executive actions had slowed down the number of Migrants from Central and South America, throwing themselves onto U.S. soil in order to make meritless asylum claims. But the number of them has been ticking up as of late, in large part because everyone south of Texas expects the Biden administration to usher them in by the tens of thousands and let them stay.
That’s a lot of people you, the taxpayer, are going to have to supply with housing, food, and healthcare. I hope you’re not enduring any economic hardship right now — Ramos needs you to step up and do your part reestablishing our “image as a country of immigrants.”
