Gov. Chris Christie slammed Hillary Clinton’s unapologetic tone when discussing her decision to transmit sensitive information on a personal server, arguing Thursday during the GOP debate she had risked national security “for her convenience.”
“I heard Hillary Clinton asked a direct question by an Iowan,” Christie said of Clinton’s response this week to a question about her email use that was posed in a televised town hall. “Here’s what she said to the American people: she did it for her convenience.”
The New Jersey governor said Clinton was “not qualified to be president of the United States” due to her careless treatment of the sensitive information found within her emails.
“She put America’s secrets at risk for her convenience,” he said. “She put American intelligence officers at risk for her convenience. She put American strategy at risk for her convenience.”
Christie declined to take shots at Sens. Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio for their lack of executive experience, instead training his fire on the likely Democratic nominee for her controversial record.
“The fact is, we need someone on that stage who has been tested, who has been through it, who has made decisions, who would sit in the chair of consequence and who could prosecute the case against Hillary Clinton on that stage,” he said. “That is exactly what I am ready to do.”
Christie has frequently painted himself as the candidate most able to take on Clinton in a general election fight, often touting his record of executive experience over candidates who have never held political office or have served only in Congress.
