Wayne Ozmore Jr., a Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Department commissioner, has resigned his post, Gov. Bob McDonnell’s office confirmed Tuesday.
The governor appointed Ozmore as a commissioner in March 2010. Ozmore had also served as a senior criminal investigator in the Virginia Attorney General’s Office, and has more than 16 years of experience in Virginia’s law enforcement community, according to his online biography.
The departure leaves Chairman Neal Insley and Sandra Canada as commission members, who serve as political appointees of the governor and earn about $120,000 a year.
McDonnell said on WTOP radio that the departure did not have to do with the administration’s aborted attempt to privatize Virginia’s state-run liquor stores. Ozmore will depart in mid-June and has accepted a position as a senior conultant with the political consulting firm Bull Moose Strategies.
